Framed Print of Kiniero, Guinea, 30th April 2015: Metal and welding workshop making doors and doing repairs

Kiniero, Guinea, 30th April 2015: Metal and welding workshop making doors and doing repairs Kiniero, Guinea, 30th April 2015: This village and the surrounding area will be flooded by the Fomi Dam. Welding Shop Nouhan Kanté, in a red and blue shirt, is the boss. 31 years old, he is deaf and dumb. He is married and has 2 children. Aly II Condé, 27, married, is responsible for the workshop. They have been working here since 2008. The third boy is an apprentice - he's 16 and usually comes to the workshop after school finishes at round 2pm. “There are many apprentices working in the workshop but because of the lake party some of us didn't come today. Usually we work here every day. From bricoles (small work), we can earn 300, 000GNF a day, but from contract work we can earn more: up to 3, 000, 000GNF over 3 days, for example, for repairing a telephone booth. If we repair a single door it costs 300, 000GNF, and a pair of doors is 500, 000GNF. We know about the FOMI Dam and we're psychologically prepared for it. We think if we move to another area we can still continue our welding work. If the Company in charge of the FOMI construction gives us a contract, it will be good business for us.”. © Mike Goldwater
