Ruins of Barnard Castle in the historic market town which bears its name, Barnard Castle, County Durham, England. The castle stands on a high rock above a stone arched bridge spanning the River Tees and was named after its 1100s founder, Bernard de Balliol. The bridge dates from the 1300s and was sometimes called County Bridge as it was formerly on the boundary between County Durham and Yorkshire. The etching depicts the ruins of Barnard Castle in the historic market town which bears its name, Barnard Castle, County Durham, England. The castle stands on a high rock above a stone arched bridge spanning the River Tees and was named after its 12th century founder, Bernard de Balliol. In the 15th century, the castle was further developed by the English King, Richard III; it is now in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public. The bridge dates from the 14th century and was sometimes called County Bridge as it was formerly on the boundary between County Durham and Yorkshire. It was repaired in 1596 and after the Great Flood of 1771. Joseph F Pimm studied at the Birmingham School of Art and exhibited widely in national and international galleries, including the Royal Academy and the Paris Salon, where he gained a silver medal. Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
